Public works

I've heard from some guys at one of the MIN (Magyar i Norge) meeting that there is still communism here, in Norway. :-) I don't know myself if there is or isn't but that's fact on Thursday there was a public works day. The Janitor wrote that all household must participate by at least one member in the projects of gardening and painting of the laundry, otherwise must pay a symbolical NOK 500. (There was a labour conscription at the end) I was really interested what this works like. I was a lucky having been finished my work at 3pm on thursday and so beeing able to participate.

To cut the long story short it started at 6pm and the works ended at about 8, so it turned into a grill party afterwards till some 11.30 pm. Works were precisly organised but weren't done so seriously. They were surprised seeing that I took so seriously the meening of work and cutted of the whole length of hedgerow (not more than 15 metres) by myself. :-) However the one on which I wondered was the answer to my question of what about that one squaremetre area in between the fence and tool-house. The answer was "Just leave it there, we'll do it next time."

From the penalties the table were full of very good foods. When everybody was so full hardly beeing able to move a big bowl of stowbery appeared on table and a great portion icecream...

This day was mostly about tenants could meet each other and make friendships. For example I've been living here for 9 month but I didn't know a single person in the house.

I hardly can wait for the next occasion.
